GAMCO Project: Ammonia-Powered Vehicles for the Future of Agriculture

Through the GAMCO (GREEN AMMONIA MULTIFUEL COMBINE) project, WTZ Roßlau is collaborating with CLAAS and MAN Engines to develop an innovative ammonia-powered drive system for combine harvesters. The goal is to create a high-performance NH₃-compatible engine concept for the agriculture of the future.

When we talk about the future of agriculture, many people first think of digitalization, precision farming, or automation.

However, the question of how heavy agricultural machinery will be powered in the future is at least as crucial.

With the kickoff of the Hashtag#GAMCO (GREEN AMMONIA MULTIFUEL COMBINE) collaborative project at CLAAS in Harsewinkel, a project has now been launched that is specifically addressing this issue.

Together with our partners CLAAS(Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen GmbH) and MAN Engines—a business unit of MAN Truck & Bus SE—we are developing an NH₃-compatible engine concept for a combine harvester.

The goal is to develop a practical propulsion system that meets high performance requirements while also making a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

For us at WTZ Roßlau, this project is much more than just the development of an engine.

It’s about the intersection of engine development, energy technology, the hydrogen economy, and agriculture. It is precisely at these intersections that innovations emerge—innovations that individual companies could hardly achieve on their own.

I am especially looking forward to working with all the project partners and to the professional exchange within the consortium.

I would also like to thank the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energyfor funding the project, as well as Projektträger Jülich for supporting the project.

We would also like to thank CLAAS for the excellent organization of the kick-off meeting and for their warm hospitality.

The real work starts now…💪
And that’s exactly what we’re looking forward to.
