AMAZING – Reliable High-Temperature Exhaust Gas Sensor Technology for Emission Reduction in Vehicles

Description of project

Subproject: Characterization and calibration of the exhaust gas sensor

The project objective is to develop a pulsation-capable mass flow sensor that both permits determination of the exhaust gas mass flow in diesel engines and is suitable for use in portable emission monitoring systems. A material hybrid approach consisting of a miniaturized, highly robust, ceramic sensor element and thermally decoupled housing as well as an adapted, high-temperature-capable assembly and interconnection technology is to be selected. For control, measurement and signal processing, control and evaluation electronics are designed to ensure use under the harsh operating conditions. Based on the developed sensor, the next step will be to develop an EGR system that will be integrated into a suitable engine test bench and its influence on fuel consumption and emissions evaluated. Companies and research institutions from the fields of sensor manufacturing, sensor testing and sensor development have joined forces as collaborative partners. These are listed below:
