The HydroMonia – Hydrogen Ammonia Power project focuses on the development of a multi-fuel engine with an NH₃ cracker for the use of carbon-free energy sources such as hydrogen and ammonia. The focus is on comprehensive retrofit concepts, suitable ignition and combustion processes, and complete decarbonization through the use of ammonia and hydrogen.

Project Objectives

  • Comprehensive retrofit strategies for the use of carbon-free energy sources such as hydrogen and ammonia in the power sector
  • Development of a Calculation Methodology (Simulation-Based)
  • Development of a Suitable Ignition Concept for a Multi-Fuel Engine Operating on Methane/Hydrogen and Ammonia/Hydrogen Mixtures
  • Basic experiments on potential firing methods for the FM18 and FM35
  • Optimization of ignition and combustion processes, as well as pollutant formation

Potential

  • Complete decarbonization using ammonia and hydrogen
