Power density increase for compression-ignition H2 cycle engines - FVV

In the FVV project 1493, the Argon Power Cycle, a zero-emission hydrogen cycle engine, is to be further optimized. Following the successful feasibility study in the previous project, the aim now is to increase the performance and efficiency of the engine.
A test engine was built for the project and equipped with a larger injector compared to the previous project. This setup was successfully put into operation on one of our test benches.

The engine is supplied with high-pressure hydrogen, which is introduced directly into the argon-oxygen environment in the combustion chamber, where it ignites itself. Already in the first tests, the load could be significantly increased in comparison. The results of the extensive test program are promising that a further increase is possible.
