On September 3, 2021, the kick-off event for the presentation of the TRAINS – joint project took place at the “Hugo Junkers” Museum of Technology in Dessau-Roßlau. Here, the representatives of all partners of the TRAINS alliance presented the project to the public. The alliance pursues the goal of creating new employees and demand-driven mobility through technical and social innovations, thereby strengthening the attractiveness of the Anhalt region for skilled workers and families. In the project “UV14-Efficient gas-engine drive systems for multiple units; funding code 03WIR2106A”, WTZ Roßlau gGmbH is taking on the task of developing a gas-powered combustion engine for the conversion of diesel-engine-driven multiple units and its subsequent application in the rail vehicle intended for this purpose. The engine is to offer the possibility of using natural gas-hydrogen mixtures with 0 to 100% hydrogen, thereby significantly reducing pollutant emissions such as nitrogen oxides, particulates and carbon dioxide emissions. The overall project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the program “WIR! – Change through Innovation in the Region” program.
