First fire of the hydrogen-powered engine at the WTZ

Engineers and technicians at WTZ Roßlau start tests with hydrogen on a modified diesel engine in single-cylinder operation. The first ignition of the hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine, in December 2021, represents an important milestone for the members of the TRAINS Alliance. Such modified gas engines are later planned for use as diesel replacements for existing trains.

The goal of the TRAINS alliance in the funding program is to WE! – Change through Innavation in the Region, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Anhalt region to become an attractive
Technology region to develop. In the process, the traditionally located companies in the
railroad technology and accessories, the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and the non-university
research institutions of the alliance work closely together.
