Modernization of the research infrastructure in the WTZ

At WTZ Roßlau gGmbH, with funding from the State of Saxony-Anhalt through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the research infrastructure for working on innovative projects involving the renewable fuels of the future—hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia—was extensively modernized. In addition to upgrading the IT infrastructure and the WTZ website, the project focused primarily on expanding the test facilities and peripheral equipment for an engine test stand. In an earlier development project, WTZ Roßlau had already developed a modern single-cylinder research engine [Link] had already been put into operation at the WTZ Roßlau. Thanks to the improved research conditions, it is now possible to investigate innovative combustion processes and thus actively shape the future of large engines with an eye toward the upcoming energy transition. In addition to conventional fuels, a wide range of renewable energy sources is also available. In this context, combustion processes involving low- and high-pressure injection, as well as numerous fuel combinations, can be investigated for a wide variety of engine applications. The research infrastructure is complemented by high-precision ignition and exhaust gas measurement technology, and a fully variable and freely programmable rapid-prototyping control unit is available for engine development.
