Module for the energy revolution
There will not be a constant and reliable supply of renewable energy sources. The fossil power stations are continuing to run – they cannot be shut down for days or hours at the push of a button. Solutions for storing electricity generated from the wind and the sun and supplying it in accordance with requirements are needed for the energy revolution. WTZ Roßlau gGmbH has such a solution with the zero emission circulation engine. This innovation makes it possible to reconvert hydrogen and oxygen generated using green electricity with no emissions whatsoever. The circulation engine operates in accordance with the functional principle of an internal combustion engine, combined with an innovative combustion method. Instead of ambient air and diesel, hydrogen and pure oxygen are supplied. This means that no environmentally damaging nitrous oxides are produced during combustion. The intake tract and the exhaust tract constitute a circulation system which is filled with a monatomic inert gas. This provides more efficient combustion, and therefore greater efficiency. The gas mixture is ignited in the combustion chamber by a spark plug, and the expansion thereof drives a generator via a piston and a crankshaft. This converts the movement energy into electrical energy. The only reaction product that is occurs is water vapour. This is then liquefied using a cooling system and led out of the circulation system. The circulation engine has lower manufacturing costs than a fuel cell, and can be used without problems for higher output, even within the megawatt range. Possible usage scenarios of the engine, which has already been implemented as a prototype, are large gas engines and combined heat and power stations for grid stabilisation
