New research project at WTZ – CliNeR-ECo

Published by

CliNeR-ECo – WTZ, MAN Energy Solution and TU Darmstadt develop multi-fuel retrofit solutions for the climate-neutral fuels e-methanol and ammonia for operation in large marine engines

Target: low-emission medium-speed internal combustion engine in marine applications

The retrofit solution contributes toCO2 reduction in the marine sector through the use of climate-neutral e-methanol.

The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection is funding the research project with the acronym “CliNeR-ECo”.

MAN Energy Solutions SE, TU Darmstadt and WTZ Roßlau have been working on the new joint project “CliNeR-ECo” since the beginning of 2023, which is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) with three million euros. Among other things, e-methanol and other e-fuels are being investigated in a medium-speed engine in order to be able to comply with future GHG limits with the help of a developed modular system for marine engines. The overall measurable goal is to reduce net CO2 emissions by 60%.
