Why ammonia now?
The debate about alternative energy sources is getting louder and louder – and rightly so.
But one question is often overlooked: How quickly can we actually put these technologies into practice?

✔️Promising C02-free fuel that can be used to decarbonize maritime transport.
✔️It is easier to store and transport than hydrogen, which makes it ideal for use in global energy networks.
✔️And: It can be used in existing infrastructures.
But what is already possible with ammonia today?
As part of our fundamental research work, we now have concrete results.

What happens now?
1️⃣ We will transfer the results with the aim of…
– Simulation of the combustion process for a better understanding of the behavior of ammonia.
– Scaling of the experiments to larger cylinder dimensions.
2️⃣ Further development:
– Optimization of combustion and injection technology for lower emissions.
– Development of an engine-compatible model test bench for ammonia fuel systems.
3️⃣ Scaling and implementation:
– Design of a scalable fuel system for different engine sizes.
– Construction of a dual-fuel engine (ammonia & diesel) with minimal CO₂ emissions.
Facing up to scientific challenges is not an option, but a necessity that we at WTZ are tackling together with our partners.
